What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD interacts with our bodies' endocannabinoid systems (ECS) to promote homeostasis, or balance. It can be ingested or applied to the skin.

Is CBD legal?

CBD was legalized in the United States under the 2018 Farm Bill. The bill removed hemp, a varietal of cannabis, from Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act. Legalized industrial hemp contains no more than 0.3% THC, which is significant considering marijuana plants typically contain anywhere from 15%-40% of THC.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

First, it is important to note that both hemp and marijuana are varietals of the Cannabis sativa plant. However, the difference lies in the percentage of THC within each plant. Federally legal hemp plants contain no more than 0.3% of THC, whereas marijuana plants typically contain far greater percentages of THC and fewer amounts of CBD.

Will CBD get me high?

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the cannabinoid responsible for the intoxicating, psychoactive effects of cannabis. CBD, however, does not have that same effect. In short, CBD will not get you high.

What is the difference between full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate CBD?

Hemp-derived CBD is typically extracted in three variations: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate. Full spectrum CBD oil contains the full plant matter of cannabinoids and terpenes, and includes no more than 0.3% THC. Broad spectrum CBD oil contains all plant matter with the exception of THC. Isolate CBD is pure CBD and is the only part of the plant extracted for use. While some people prefer isolates because it is THC-free, it does not provide the “entourage effect” found by the use of broad and full spectrum CBD. The entourage effect encourages homeostasis within the body because it allows for the plants' cannabinoids and terpenes to work together to achieve a greater effect than by using an isolate.

Which of your products contain CBD?

51st Place has a wide array of bath + body products. Many of our products contain CBD, however there are some that do not. Please review the description, ingredient deck, and certificate of analysis when deciding whether to purchase a product with or without CBD.

I’m pregnant, nursing, or taking prescription medications. Can I use your products?

If you are pregnant, nursing, or taking prescription medications, it is best that you contact your physician before using any type of CBD. Nevertheless, many of our products do not contain CBD and are great for daily use.

How will CBD affect my skin?

The hemp plant is rich in omega fatty acids, amino acids, and vitamins which are beneficial for the skin. CBD has been shown to soothe redness and irritation. Coupled with other moisturizing oils and butters, our products will nourish your skin and keep it hydrated.

What is a COA?

A Certificate of Analysis, or COA, is the third-party testing document that verifies the amount of each cannabinoid in the product you are using. You can access our COAs by visiting our dedicated page here.

Will CBD cause me to fail a drug test?

Some products including full spectrum CBD may contain trace amounts of THC, making the likelihood of testing positive for a THC-drug test possible. If you are worried about drug testing but are still curious about CBD, be sure to check the product’s COA to verify what cannabinoids are actually available in the product. Our products are all THC-Free, as verified by our COAs, which can be found in the product description or on our dedicated page here.
